Our mission
CT-OG supports organizations focused on immigrant rights, justice transformation, and indigenous justice to build lasting power. Through landscape assessments, power mapping, healing narrative tactics and strategies, and through transformative organizing capacity building support, we help organizations strengthen movements capable of building and cultivating power across generations.
Why the center exists
The Center on Transformative Organizing and Governance supports individuals, organizations, coalitions, and movement ecosystems build and cultivate durable power, and how movements practice and envision transformative governance.
Campaigns are usually judged by what policies they win. We start from a different premise: a policy victory is one output of a larger organizing ecosystem of people, relationships, institutions, and consciousness, and it is the health and vitality of that transformative organizing ecosystem that determines whether power endures.
We serve organizers, coalitions, movement intermediaries, and the funders that resource them with three kinds of analysis: landscape assessments that profile the organizations and formations shaping a field; power analysis and power maps that trace the political economy networks holding current power arrangements in place; and narrative research into how durable shifts in public common sense happen through narrative power tactics and strategies.
Our current body of work spans three California transformative organizing ecosystems: youth justice transformation, immigrant rights, and adult justice transformation.
