Our mission
CT-OG supports organizations, forms, and collectives cultivate the transformative people power and organizing capacity of those most impacted in a manner that compounds across campaigns, crises, and generations for transformative movements.
Why the center exists
The Center on Transformative Organizing and Governance supports individuals, organizations, coalitions, and movement ecosystems build and cultivate durable power — and how movements practice and envision transformative governance.
Campaigns are usually judged by what they win. We start from a different premise: a policy victory is one output of a larger ecosystem of people, relationships, institutions, and consciousness — and it is the health and vitality of that ecosystem that determines whether power endures.
We serve organizers, coalitions, and the institutions that resource them with three kinds of analysis: landscape assessments that profile the organizations and formations shaping a field; power analysis that traces the networks holding current arrangements in place; and narrative research into how durable shifts in public common sense actually happen.
Our current body of work spans four California ecosystems: youth justice transformation, immigrant rights, adult justice transformation, and education justice.
